Spellbinder worked with Undercurrent (part of the Current Collective) in supplying Multicam and editing for the annual FMBE Awards at Troxy in East London on 11th October. The brief was to provide a vision mixed Multicam feed for the show together with a post-production highlights package. We provided a five camera solution including two RF linked cameras, one on a gimbal and one handheld. The Sony F55 was the weapon of choice for our main camera, mounted on the Movi Pro gimbal. The other cameras were Sony FS7 MkI and MkII cameras.

From the video production perspective, it was a great night. It was great to crew an event like this with good coverage. On the F55 we shot with Arri Ultra primes: This meant that we could get some immersive high frame rate hero shots of award winners walking up to collect their prizes. They really do have much more character and rendering of colours, contrast and flare than the CP2 Zeiss lenses. Some might say that it was kind of overkill for an event such as this. But that’s a great example of how we like to push production value with any budget. Sure we could have shot the event with CP2 lenses and they would have saved us a hundred pounds or so in the rental, but Spellbinder is all about going a step further. I don’t want to settle for the bare minimum, it’s not in my nature.
